Hindu principal and student beaten and forced to wear shoe garland in Bangladesh

A Hindu college principal and a Hindu student were beaten and forced to wear shoe garlands in Bangladesh over the Prophet Mohammad issue of India. According to the local sources, Rahul, a Hindu student of Mirzapur Degree College in Bichali Union of Narail Sadar Upazila, posted his status on Facebook with Nupur Sharma’s photo on June 18. This enraged the Muslim crowd in the college and the local area. Due to this incident, they turned the local area into a battlefield. The local frantic Muslim mob clashed with the police. Police fired tear gas to bring the situation under control. Local Police later arrested college principal Swapan Kumar Biswas and student Rahul.

According to the locals, Rahul Dev Roy, a Hindu student of Mirzapur Degree College in Narail, shared a picture of Nupur Sharma on social media Facebook and wrote, “Take my Pranam Nupur Sharma boss, Jai Shri Ram”. Hindu student Rahul Dev Roy is the son of Babul Roy of Arpara village in the Bichali union of Narail Sadar Upazila. Other Muslim students in the college told Rahul to delete that status. They complained to the acting principal of the college, Swapan Kumar Biswas, along with the local Muslim community, that the status had not been deleted as per the wishes of the Muslim students. The Muslim students and the crowd were furious when he sided with Rahul on the issue. At this time he tried to convince them but to no avail.

Later, the college was surrounded by Muslim students and local Muslim mobs, accusing Hindu principal Swapan Kumar Biswas and Hindu student Rahul Dev Roy of blasphemy. At that time they set fire to 3 motorcycles. Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and fired a few rounds of blank shots to bring the situation under control. Then Hindu principal Swapan Kumar Biswas and Hindu student Rahul Dev Roy were beaten and forced to wear shoe garlands by the Frantic Muslim mobs.

Police were silent spectators at the scene at the time. Upon receiving the news, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habibur Rahman and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Shawkat Kabir visited the spot. Later, the principal of the college Swapan Kumar Biswas and the accused Rahul were arrested by the police. When various media outlets tried to contact OC Shawkat Kabir, it was not possible to speak. Due to this incident, local Hindus are fearing attacks and looting of Hindu homes and businesses by the frantic Muslim mobs.
