Hindu family attacked in Bangladesh over the ongoing Prophet Mohammad issue in India

The home of a minority Hindu family has been attacked, vandalized and set on fire in Chitalmari, Bagerhat, Bangladesh, over the ongoing Prophet Mohammad issue in India. The local Muslims attacked a Hindu house in Chingari village in a procession around 2 pm on Sunday. During the attack, the Hindu family fled and took refuge elsewhere.

The assailants also set fire to roads in the Kunia area. Upon receiving the news, the police went and arrested a young man from the minority Hindu family and calmed down the situation. The arrested Hindu youth (33) ran a saloon in the local area. Additional police were then deployed in the area. Bagerhat Superintendent of Police KM Ariful Haque visited the spot.

Superintendent of Police KM Ariful Haque said a few local Muslim youths had alleged that Nabi Mohammad had been insulted in India a week ago at a tea shop in the local market. Some people had a quarrel with a Hindu youth about this. At one point they got involved in an argument.

The Superintendent of Police further said that the Muslims of Bangladesh held a protest in Gopalganj on Sunday focusing on this issue in India. Several Muslims from Chitalmari took part in it. On their way back from there, they attacked the Hindu house as planned. A neighbour of the Hindu victim’s home said that hundreds of local Muslims came together and attacked and vandalized the house. At one point, they set fire to a part of the house. Then the people of that house somehow managed to escape. Neighbours came to put out the fire. The Hindu victim’s family has been living in insecurity since the incident.
