Bangladesh in Flames: Islamist Mobs Target Hindus and Indian High Commission After Death of Osman Hadi

Bangladesh is in turmoil following the news of Osman Hadi’s death. Islamist protests are taking place in various cities, and Hindus are being targeted. In Mymensingh, a Hindu man was allegedly beaten to death after being falsely accused of making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad. The deceased has been identified as Dipu Chandra Das. The incident occurred around 9 PM local time on December 18th in the Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh. The deceased, Dipu, was a resident of Tarakanda Upazila and worked at the Pioneer Knit Composite factory. He was reportedly beaten to death at that factory.

According to the report, Dipu’s body was then taken to the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. There, his body was left by the roadside and set on fire. This incident caused the road to be blocked for a long time. Tension spread in the area. The police arrived at the scene much later. ‘Islamist mob culture’ is becoming increasingly horrific in Bangladesh. Furthermore, the persecution of Hindu minorities in that country is also not stopping. This incident in Mymensingh is an example of this.

Meanwhile, hardline anti-India Bangladeshi Islamist leader Osman Hadi has died in a Singapore hospital. Following the news of his death, widespread unrest has erupted across Bangladesh. Supporters of the Inqilab platform, Islamists, and opponents of Sheikh Hasina are staging protests in Dhaka, Rajshahi, and other places. The Awami League office in Rajshahi was vandalized and set on fire. An enraged Islamist mob gathered and began protesting at various intersections in the capital, including Dhaka University and Shahbag. The office of the Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Prothom Alo’ was also attacked and set ablaze. Anti-India slogans such as “Delhi or Dhaka” and “Break down and crush India’s aggression” are also being heard.

On the other hand, as soon as the news of Osman Hadi’s death was released, Islamists marched towards the residence of the Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chittagong. They also attempted to attack the residence. Security guards tried to stop the Islamists, but the demonstrators broke through one barricade after another and advanced. This created tension on the streets of Chittagong. Slogans of “fake” were chanted against the police at that time. Meanwhile, following the death of the hardline Bangladeshi Islamist leader Osman Hadi, NCP leader & Islamist Sarjis Alam announced the “closure” of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. Accusing India, he stated, “The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh will remain closed until India hands over Hadi’s killers.”
